Where were they and all their concern when Cheney is trying to get all this torture in to the law? They offered only token resistance. Now they are so worried about Pinetta. He probably couldn't' find anyone morally conscionable with enough experience so went a different way. Most of these top dogs don't have that much direct experience.
Am I supposed to believe that two years in the Air Force 40 years ago qualifies Robert Gates to be Secretary of Defense? Really? Well he rubbed elbows with Admirals and what not I guess that good enough. Had some direct experience with paramilitaries of foreign countries. He has done a good job compared to rummy but well what can you really say about that. Not exactly a high standard.
Pinetta needs to know how to administrate and make judgments. He isn't going to be gathering covert intelligence or operating the satellites. I promise the guy in charge can't do that kind of ground level stuff either. Most hosptial administrators aren't doctors. Same princple. It is far more important that we have a break with the terrible things that have gone on there. If the Senate had been doing its job perhaps we wouldn't be having this conversation.
