Applauding the pick of General Shinseki

Yesterday president-elect Obama Picked retired General Eric Shinseki to be Secretary of Veteran's Affairs. For those who might not remember he is the general who was chief of staff of the Army and was forced to retire for clashing with Rummy.

He got in hot water because he rightly estimated that it would take somewhere near a quarter of a million troops to pacify and hold Iraq. He was unceremoniously told to shut up and turn in his stars. Thanks for the 40 plus years of service but we think we in the civilian leadership know better .

I am delighted to see that his standing up for what he knew to be right will not go unrewarded. Also, glad to see a military man in charge of Veteran's affairs it seems like the right thing to do. General Shinseki is himself a wounded warrior and that I hope will give him empathy for others of our brotherhood.
