Blackwater Shootings Case Moved To Washington DC

This is just the first step in restoring our reputation. The worst thing for me as former military of the last eight years is seeing how thoroughly trashed our reputation and standing in the world has become. The type of savagery and lawlessness displayed by these individuals is just the sort of thing that reaffirms the worst propaganda of our enemies. We play right into their hands by alienating civilians who wanted to believe in the best in America before this whole thing started. We play right into their hands by providing a steady stream of new recruits for the other side. We disgust people of conscience on our own side so that they stay away from the military and leave it to people like these individuals. Its an interlocking series of vicious circles. When I was in the the Army we never fired upon or harmed civilians and treated captives with utmost humanity.

As a third generation solider,I feel that the polices and practices of this administration that has created behemoths like Blackwater and made the government dependent upon them are defiling the memory and efforts of everyone who ever served this country. Champions of small government this is what you are really asking for. Don't you ever ask yourself who will perform the tasks done by goverment? Unaccountable out of control giant corporations thats who. The worst part might be that the government is now so dependent upon outside contractors it will be hard to reverse that dependence.

That these individuals are now only being brought to justice is itself a travesty. It is however a step in the right direction. A step towards trying to reclaim our better selves. It is our attempt to single out the few who are dragging everything down. It is also hopefully a way for us to say we don't condone these types of actions and we will seek justice. Will it dissuade Iraqis from taking revenge on our people in Iraq we might never know. It is however important that the world know we are still a nation of laws and that our citizens will follow those laws.

I am glad the judge turned down their attempt to venue shop. This crime was not committed in Utah against Utahans. As it was committed on foreign soil for lack of a better option it should be tried in our capital. Where it will get the attention it so richly deserves. We can't export democracy and rule of law unless we are willing to live by it even if it is embarrassing at times.
