CA Attorney General sings a different tune on prop8

This is fantastic. Well that didn't take long. After saying that as the state's top lawyer he would support and enforce prop 8. Jerry Brown the current Attorney General who was governor of California from 1975-1983 has more closely examined the state's Constitution and decided that Article 1 declares marriage a basic right and there fore cannot be denied to a minority group. Why the sudden change of heart?

In and out of the highest levels of state government for 33 years and now you decide to give the state Constitution a close read? Really? Is that the story you are going with. Remember he was governor during the fight over proposition 6 which would have banned gays at teachers and even fire people that support them. See the new movie Milk staring Sean Penn for more.

Well i think its great that all the outpouring of protest and support for GLBT has changed the Attorney General's mind. I am sure it has nothing to do with him wanting to be Governor again.
It couldn't' possibly.

The real question I have is how many progressive democrats didn't' bother to turn out on nov 4th because they thought the state was a lock for Obama and that there was noooo way that prop 8 would pass. More than 4 % i am willing to wager. I am thinking Jerry Brown doesn't want to find out. Its obvious from all the outrage that everyone opposed didnt' turn out they just couldn't convceive of this pasisng. Let that be a lesson in civic duty for you all in California. Take nothing for granted.

If this does get overturned justice will be served in more ways than one. First one of the last descrimnated against classes will be one giant leap closer to equality. This decision would be an important precedent that can be used to defeat future attempts at deprivation.

Second,all the far right groups will be out of all that cash they spent on this. Focus on family is laying people off because they are running out of money partly behind all this money they spent on prop 8. The Mormons are losing members over this. You would think that a people constantly misunderstood based on their own marriage practices would have more sympathy. Very unchristian. That will be the best part they spent all this money and effort to meddle in other peoples affairs and the only people they hurt in the end will be themselves. Go CA supreme Court!!
